What to Expect
A DOT physical is a routine medical examination required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to help ensure commercial drivers are medically qualified to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle. At Rocky River Chiropractic, we strive to make the process as efficient, straightforward, and stress-free as possible.
Your appointment typically takes 30-40 minutes, depending on your medical history and whether any additional documentation is needed. Our goal is to provide a thorough examination while getting you back on the road as quickly as possible.
Your Examination
During your DOT physical, Dr. Jessica Torrence, a Certified Medical Examiner, will review your medical history and perform the required components of the examination, including:
Review of your medical history and current medications
Height, weight, and vital signs
Blood pressure and pulse
Vision screening
Hearing screening
Urinalysis (required as part of the DOT exam to screen for underlying medical conditions such as diabetes or kidney disease—not a drug test)
Physical examination required by FMCSA guidelines
If additional medical information or clearance from a specialist is required, we'll explain exactly what documentation you'll need before your medical certificate can be issued.
After Your Exam
If you meet FMCSA medical standards, you'll receive your DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate at the completion of your appointment. Depending on your health history and examination findings, your certificate may be valid for up to 24 months.
If additional documentation or follow-up is needed, we'll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions you may have.
